MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL - 2018

There appears to be some confusion over renewal forms.  Those members who receive a newsletter by post should receive a personalised renewal form in the printed newsletter when it arrives, hopefully sometime next week.  Members who only receive their newsletter in electronic form should have had a separate email with a renewal form attached for them to detach and print off.

I would like to take this opportunity to emphasise that unless the appropriate consent boxes on the form are ticked and the form returned to the membership secretary we will not be permitted to store your data and send you a newsletter in any form.  This is as a result of the General Data Protection Regulation which comes into force in May.

If you have any queries please contact
                  datamanager@devizesu3a.org.uk.

CROWN CENTRE CLOSURE

Chairman's Statement

In light of the recommendation by the trustees to the members of the Crown Centre at the end of last year the committee decided it had to start looking sooner rather than later at possible new venues.  The report we received that the recommendation had not been accepted but that no suggestions had come forward from the meeting did not bode well and we have continued the search.

We will not be the only organisation looking for new venues for meetings and storage and certain decisions have had to be taken, especially as suitable venues are not readily available, especially for equipment storage where access has to be gained by a number of different people. However the exact details, such as dates, of moves for the equipment have not been finalised.   Therefore no information about this has yet been sent to members although it is likely to be towards the end of next month or early April..  As soon as all details are known all group leaders will be advised.

There is a group leaders meeting on 3rd April and all the information that the committee has will be given and there will be an opportunity for questions to be asked and a discussion to be had.

I know you are interested in the upstairs rooms at St Andrews and I am liaising with some other group leaders to see if they are of interest to them as well. I am hopeful that they will be but it is for each group to decide what is best for them.  I will then liaise with St Andrews on behalf of those who are interested.

Some groups have already decided to move and their groups are being notified accordingly by their leaders.

I hope this helps I explain the difficult position in which the committee has found itself and the steps it is having to take.

Proposed new group  -  Croquet

Croquet is a game suited to any age which can be played by men and women and is becoming increasingly popular. I intend to run a beginners course on Tuesday mornings from 10.00 am to 12 Noon., starting inApril. This will be a thirteen week structured course of instruction after which beginners will have a good idea of how to play the game. I did this same course last year and half a dozen members, whilst not yet experts, are now enjoying the game.

Why don’t you come along and join them ?

It is a surprisingly skilful and complex game combining elements of snooker with the tactics of chess. Croquet epitomises a tranquil summer’s afternoon sport. Once the relatively simple strokes have been mastered, the game is both fascinating and fun to play.

The cost will be £10.00 for all thirteen sessions. No special clothing is required  and all equipment needed will be provided. The venue is Urchfont Cricket Club and perhaps we can arrange some car sharing scheme.

If you would like to learn and participate in this interesting and enjoyable game please contact me as soon as possible.
